Tour to Sacred Sites

Sacred sites have the power to heal the body, enlighten the mind, increase creativity, develop psychic abilities, and awaken the soul to a knowing of its true purpose in life. The island of Langkawi has a lingering legend woven into her history with intriguing tales of mythology and legends.

Inspired by the flower of life, which represents our interconnectedness and inseparability from nature, V Integrated Wellness invites you to explore some of the most fascinating sacred, mystical and magical sites to enrich your wellness journey.

Pulau Dayang Bunting (Island of the Pregnant Maiden)

A prominent Langkawi legend about a man named Mat Teja, who met Mambang Sari - a beautiful fairy princess at the lake. Mat Teja managed to win the heart of Mambang Sari even though marriages with mortals were forbidden. The coupled lived happily on earth and Mambang Sari bore Mat Teja a son but the baby died after a short while. Heart broken, Mambang Sari laid her child to rest in peace in the lake to return to her home in the sky.

But she blessed the lake so that any childless woman who bathed in the lake would conceive thereafter. The hill that cups this extraordinary lake resembles a pregnant lady reclining in the sun.

For the ladies who are keen, we recommend a mandi bunga (floral bath) or a massage by the indigenous healer to strengthen the womb.

Mystical Cave of Stories

Gua Cerita or Cave of Stories is a cavern alive with captivating legends. The most famous is the one concerning the origin of Kedah’s royal lineage as related in Epic of Merong Maha Wangsa. The Legend links this cave with the mystical Battle of the Big Birds where a Princess of China was kidnapped and held captive. Some ancient inscriptions are faintly legible on the walls of the cave believed to be old Arabic script and signatures of visitors to the cave that dates back to the 1950’s too.

Makam Mahsuri – (The Mahsuri Mausoleum)

Makam Mahsuri or the The Mahsuri Mausoleum was set up in honour of Mahsuri, a ravishing maiden who was unjustly accused of adultery and condemned to death. There are more than a dozen versions of Mahsuri’s legend however, the basis remains the same. According to what is most widely believed, while Mahsuri’s husband was away fighting a war, Mahsuri offered shelter to a wandering minstrel. Rumours begin to spread that Mahsuri was adulterous and she was sentenced to death. It was said that at her execution Mahsuri bled white blood signifying her innocence.

Mahsuri inspired beauty treatments are available at V Botanical Spa.

Telaga Tujuh – (The Seven Magical Wells)

Telaga Tujuh or Seven Wells Waterfall is a unique natural formation of seven pools with one pool cascading on top of the other, to a height of over 90 meters. According to folklore, the seven wells used to be a favourite bathing place of mountain fairies and the water is believed to have healing properties. A type of climbing plant with enourmous pods commonly found near the waterfall area is believed to be something the fairies left behind. Known as Sintuk, it is a special kind of lime plant. Locals frequently use it to "wash" away bad luck.

For those who are keen, a treatment utilising the similar ingredients is available at V Botanical Spa. Traditionally, maidens seeking marriage undergo this bathing ceremony to remove bad luck and usher in good fortune.
